Hello Parents/Guardians, If your son or daughter walks home after school, please be sure to check in with them if they have not arrived home at their usual time. We were informed of a reported disturbance at Council Avenue Park, specifically in the restroom area, and we have contacted the Somerton Police Department to make them aware of the situation. We ask that you please speak with your child about the importance of avoiding situations like this and going directly home after school. Our priority is always the safety and well-being of our students, and we appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations. Thank you for your support.

Dear Somerton Middle School Families, This is a friendly reminder that Tuesdays are our designated iPad take-home days. Students may bring their devices home to complete missing or incomplete assignments and stay current with their coursework. Recently, we have addressed a few instances of device misuse at home. We have reviewed our technology expectations with all students to reinforce responsible digital citizenship and appropriate use. Please remember: -All content, searches, and activity completed outside of our school network are recorded and will be reviewed once the device reconnects to our school system. -Inappropriate use may result in disciplinary consequences and/or temporary loss of take-home privileges. We kindly ask for your partnership in monitoring your child’s device use at home. Simple steps such as checking screens periodically, setting clear expectations, and ensuring the device is used in a shared family space can help prevent disruptions to learning. In addition, please speak with your Cobra about the importance of proper physical care of their iPad. If the $25 insurance plan was not purchased, repair or replacement fees may apply in the event of damage. Hope you can join us for our March PTO where we will be recognizing all students who achieved a proficient and/or highly proficient score on 2025 state assessments.

We have successfully concluded our monthly evacuation drill. All students and staff followed procedures, and the drill was completed safely and efficiently. Our front office will reopen shortly, and regular school operations have resumed. Thank you for your continued support as we practice these important safety procedures.

Last week, we celebrated our February Thriving Achievers in recognition of their outstanding citizenship and academic accomplishments.

Dear Parents and Guardians, Today, students brought home their progress report cards for quarter 3 but also some students picked up voluntarily a yellow permission slip and expectations page regarding a planned student-led “ICE Walkout” scheduled for Monday, February 23. As previously communicated in collaboration with our district office, we shared a memo outlining both student and district expectations related to this type of activity. While the school and district do not support this walkout, our priority during the school day remains the safety, supervision, and well-being of all students. Students have been informed that in order to participate, they must: Submit a completed permission slip with parent/guardian consent. Follow all school and district expectations outlined in the attached document. Cooperate fully with staff directions before, during, and after the activity. We kindly ask that you speak with your son/daughter about: The behavioral and safety expectations that must be followed to avoid possible disciplinary consequences. The public nature of this event, including the potential presence of media coverage. The importance of understanding the purpose of their participation, rather than simply following a trend. The permission slip and expectations document are provided in both English and Spanish and must be completed in full. Once your child submits the signed form, you will receive a notification message at your primary phone number on file confirming their intent to participate. If you did not authorize your child to participate, please contact our office immediately so we can ensure your son/daughter remains on campus during the event. We appreciate your partnership and support as we work together to maintain a safe and respectful learning environment for all students.

Hello Parents, we want to remind families that any student activity that disrupts the learning environment, including walkouts, may result in disciplinary action. While students have the right to express their opinions, it must be done in an orderly, respectful, and safe manner in coordination with law enforcement and school administration. Please note that any absence due to participation in a walkout will be marked as unexcused, and discipline may be assigned if students engage in unsafe or unruly behavior. We encourage you to have a conversation with your Cobras about making safe and responsible choices. If you are aware of any planned student activities, we would greatly appreciate you contacting our office so we can continue to support communication with all families.
