We had a great first day back on campus! Today, Somerton High School visited to showcase their CTE programs for our 8th-grade students, providing a preview of future learning opportunities.
All students also received their school ID as we implement this new safety expectation for students and staff. Please ensure your child wears their ID every day. This is the first step as we transition into new uniform expectations for the 2026–2027 school year.
Reminder: Parent conferences will be held tomorrow and Thursday from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM.
Thank you for your continued support.

Hello 8th Grade Families, today the principal gathered all 8th graders for an assembly to review upcoming promotion information and expectations. Paper copies were sent with students, digital copies attached. Last day to order 8th grade shirt online is Friday, January 23, 2026.

Just a friendly reminder that a copy of quarter 2 report card is being sent home today in the yellow envelope that must be signed and returned to school. Don’t forget Parent Teacher conferences and early dismissal next week, see attachments.

Good morning,
At Somerton Middle School, student safety and accountability are priorities. As part of our continued focus on maintaining a safe and organized campus, we are implementing clear Student ID expectations, which also serve as the first step toward our updated uniform expectations for the 2026 school year.
These expectations will be reviewed with students and will be effective beginning January 20, 2026.
Student ID Expectations
Each student will receive one free Student ID and lanyard.
Student IDs must be worn daily, visible at all times, and above all garments while on campus.
IDs must be worn on the student, not kept in backpacks or pockets.
Lost or damaged IDs must be replaced at the office for a $5 fee.
Why Student IDs Are Important
Student IDs allow staff to easily identify students and adults on campus, helping us maintain a safe learning environment. IDs are required for students to:
Participate in school activities during the school day
Use the PBIS Cobra Store
Check in to afterschool activities
Attend special events, including the Promotion Dance
PBIS-Aligned Consequences
We will use a progressive approach aligned with our PBIS expectations of being Respectful, Responsible, and Reflective:
First occurrence: Verbal warning and reminder
Second occurrence: Minga check-in and PBIS point deduction
Third occurrence: Assigned detention
Fourth occurrence: Loss of school enrichment activity privileges
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations with your student. Wearing a Student ID daily promotes responsibility, school pride, and campus safety for all.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

Our efforts to maximize active supervision today will require for all of our staff to be extra vigilant including our office. Please plan accordingly as we will not be taking any deliveries throughout the day, students who bring items that interfere or are unsafe to themselves or others will be removed and sent home pending disciplinary actions upon our return. Hello Parents, please help us check to ensure your son/daughters name is included and spelled correctly on this 8th grade class shirt design. If you find any errors, please call our office tomorrow.
Hello Parents, as we prepare to close the grading period for quarter 2 students will have this week to take their iPads and work on any missing or incomplete assignments. You can review their grades through ParentVue and students also can monitor in their iPads using StudentVue. We had a successful week of testing and student as they were done if time was available they got to use that time to work on improving their grades and/or communicating with their teachers. This being the second quarter, students are responsible for monitoring and submitting grades when indicated by their teachers. Students who failed to be responsible throughout the quarter can't expect to achieve an A. We appreciate your ongoing partnership and we hope our Cobras use their time wisely over the weekend to ensure their grades reflect a positive outcome.
